A memorial monument was desecrated

Malchow – a memorial monument for Max and Herta Naujocks was desecrated and a swastika was painted on it. The Naujocks couple hid a Jewish family in their home during the Second World War. The TV channel broadcasted a documentary about this brave couple.

Although the Nazis suspected the Naujocks family, Max and Herta didn’t hesitate to hide the Weiss family in their home. They told everybody that the Weisses were relatives. The Weiss family stayed there till 1944. Before every Nazi inspection of the village, the village police officer, Wilhelm Behr, would notify the Naujocks. The mother and daughter survived, but the father was caught and sent to Auschwitz, where he was murdered.

The Naujocks couple received the ‘Righteous among the Nations ‘ award from the state of Israel.
