This has been the ninth year in a row in which the CICAD organization publishes its report detailing the antisemitic incidents in the French-speaking Switzerland.
In 2012 there were 87 incidents motivated by antisemitism, a decline of 33% compared to 2011 (130 incidents).
The CICAD organization’s efforts to report immediately about each incident is bearing fruits, especially with regard to anonymous messages on the internet: a significant decline in the number of antisemitic messages on the internet has been registered. This decline, which is welcomed by CICAD, is a result of measures taken by the sites, but they have not completely solved the problem. The subject of hate messages requires a long-range commitment on the part of the sites.
Other sources for concern:
– The emergence of extreme right groups that use specific references to Fascism and Nazism, whose number has been on the increase for several years;
– The renewed awakening of antisemitic arguments that stem form fundamentalist Christian circles that have already been denounced several times by the Catholic church;
– Antisemitim on the internet sites (Facebook, Tweeter);
– The news from the Middle East, especially news related to the Israeli-Palestinian conflict, which enables several bodies to voice antisemitic prejudices.
In its analytical part, the report lists the various hotbeds in which antisemitism is promoted.
The annual report is also an opportunity for the CICAD to publish its recommendations for journalists, public officials and persons in charge in schools and in the education system in general for an efficient battle against antisemitism and racism.
