Mrs. Laurette Onkelinx, Head of the PS Party’s list in Schaerbeek is submitting a lawsuit against anonymous persons following repeated attacks Mr. Yves Goldstein, the second place candidate on the PS list. Goldstein is a target for criticism because of his Jewish background.
A placard in Turkish was recently distributed in which Goldstein was called “An active Zionist and an enemy of Islam”. This placard was/proved to be the “final straw”. She/Mrs. Onkelinx calls for the elections to be conducted in a calm and peaceful manner.
At a press conference, Mrs. Onkelinx issued a statement: “This placard is a call for antisemitism just as there are already too many [calls/pleas] against Muslims. This is intolerable and must cease immediately”. Onkelinx’x statement was supported by all the PS candidates in Schaerbeek, including Goldstein and Muslim candidates.
In addition to submission of the lawsuit, Onkelinx also submitted a claim to the Center for Equality and the Struggle against Racism.
