Young man shot at a Yeshiva entry

Borough Park, Brooklyn – a serious antisemitic incident occurred in the Borough Park neighborhood of Brooklyn on Wednesday afternoon. An ultraorthodox youngster – a student at the Klosenberg Yeshiva – was shot and gravely wounded.

The incident occurred when the youngster was standing in the entryway to the Yeshiva, which is located at 45 Street and 9th Avenue, in the early afternoon. According to witnesses the shots came from a building located across the Yeshiva, inhabited also by gentile families.

The police collected evidence from passersby and used extended forces to break into the building. After conducting a thorough search of the apartments a boy in whose house a pistol was found was arrested.

In the investigation the boy claimed that he had not meant to shoot the young man, and that a bullet had been accidentally ejected from his gun, but according to the witnesses the boy had aimed his pistol at the Yeshiva student.

Rescue volunteers transferred the young man – who was seriously wounded – to the nearby Maimonides hospital in Borough Park.
