More than 240 antisemitic crimes in North Rhine-Westphalia in 2011

Dusseldorf – the number of antisemitic events in North Rhine-Westphalia remained high and almost unchanged in the last year. 242 incidents were recorded in 2011 (240 in 2010). The numbers were provided by the state government in response to a request by a green party Parliament Member, Verena Schäffer. However, the number of assault incidents in this period has risen from four to ten. Most of the incidents were propaganda, illegal dissemination of incitement. In a number of cities Jewish cemeteries were desecrated, monuments were vandalized and antisemitic materials were distributed.
