Golders Green – Jewish pedestrians in Golders Green were pelted with eggs last Friday in what police fear was part of a string of antisemitic attacks.
Four women had been walking in Golders Green Road at around 11.30pm when a blue BMW passed by them. The front passenger, a white man in his 20s, shouted “you Jews,” before throwing an egg at them.
The car then turned around and drove back past, with the passenger shouting “Oi, Jews. Duck,” although nothing was thrown.
Later that evening two Jewish boys, aged 13 and 14 walking up Golders Green Road were also targeted by the passenger of a blue BMW answering a similar description.
The boys told police that the man leant out of the window and yelled in an Eastern European accent, “f****** Jews” before throwing an egg towards them, although neither was hit.
Police believe the men may have been targeting Jewish people and that similar incidents that night could have gone unreported, particularly as they happened during the Sabbath, a time when Jewish people are not allowed to use the telephone.
Detective Constable Damon Cotter appealed for residents to get in touch if they have been a victim or witnessed other incidents.
“I understand the problems of reporting crime on the Sabbath, but I would ask any victims or witnesses to contact us as soon as they are able,” he said.
