The levels of Anitsemitism in Spain – are “the highest in Europe”

According to the Federation of the Jewish Communities in Spain, though surveys indicate that there are high levels of “hostility” towards Jews, “most leaders and media persons believe there is no prejudice whatsoever against Jews.”

Basing its conclusion on sociological studies, the Federation of the Jewish Communities in Spain (FCJE) stated, prior to the fourth international seminar on anti-Semitism, that will take place on November 30 and December 1 in Madrid, that the levels of anitsemitism in Spain are “the highest in Europe, despite the fact that the Jewish community constitutes only 0.1% of the general population”.

The FCJE stated that Spain is a special case with respect to antisemitism, because, as mentioned above, although surveys indicate that there are high levels of “hostility” towards Jews, “most leaders and media persons believe there is no prejudice whatsoever against Jews.”

The meeting, which was organized by the FCJE with the participation of several bodies and organizations, is supplements a sequence of events initiated by European bodies, concerning the phenomenon of anti-Semitism, which, according to the FCJE, is far from being eradicated.

The following dignitaries will participate in the seminar opening event: FCJE Chairm an, Yitzhak Karov Karo; Deputy Minister of Immigration and Cooperation of the Community of Madrid, Gabriel Fernandez Rojas; the Israeli Ambassador to Spain, Alon Bar; the Spanish Emissary to the Jewish communities and Director of the Spain-Israel House, Ivaro Alabasta; the Director of the Pluralism and Co-existence Foundation, Jose Manuel Lopez; and the member of the International Institute for Education and Research on antisemitism (IIBS), Rubin Stoler.
