Teens charged with making harassing calls to Jewish family

Mount Pleasant, SC — In the midst of the Jewish High Holy Days, two 16-year-old Pleasantville High School boys have been accused of harassing a Jewish family in the village.

Mount Pleasant police said the boys, both juniors, turned themselves in at police headquarters Thursday and were both charged with second-degree aggravated harassment, a felony hate crime. Their names were not released because of their ages.

Police said they were contacted on Sept. 8 by the victims, who said they had been receiving anti-Semitic telephone calls at their home. The two boys were arrested after an investigation found that at least five such calls had been made, including two that were recorded. Investigators would not say how the boys were identified.

Both boys were released without bail and are due in Town Court on Nov. 3.
