A decrease in the number of antisemitic incidents in France

The Jewish Community Protection Center (SPCJ), which published on Tuesday, September 20th, its semi-annual report, has announced that during the first six months of 2011, the number of reported antisemitic incidents has declined in comparison to 2010’s figures. 225 incidents have occurred during that period, compared with last year’s figures for the corresponding period which totaled 278 such incidents (a decrease of 19%).

SPCJ stresses that on June 2010 there had been an expressive increase in the number of incidents as a result of the flotilla to Gaza.

The Jewish community emphasizes on the other hand that “there is a clear increase of the perpetration of those acts in the months of March and April 2011 without the occurrence of any significant international incident. A great number of acts of violence (…) were registered during this period, especially acts which included use of weapons”. More than third were perpetrated against minors.

The SPCJ was established on 1980 by the committee that represents the Jewish organizations in France (Crif) together with the Jewish social organization and the Jewish communities, following the perpetration of the terrorist attack carried out at Copernic Road.
