Antisemitic souvenirs sold in supermarkets

Brest – Souvenir statuettes in the image of a Jewish looking person can be found on the shelves of the “Alami” supermarkets chain, along with the inscription “Souvenir – Jew” (translator’s comment: The significance of the word “Jid” in a number of languages is “Jew”, including the Byelorussian language, which is the language spoken in Brest, but that word is used in the Russian language as a pejorative word).

The “Ybroradio” radio station reports that such “souvenirs” have already begun to embarrass some of the shoppers. They consider it an offense and they call that trick an antisemitic trick.

The “Alami” supermarket was inaugurated some weeks ago, and within such a short time they managed to break all the records concerning the number of complaints filed against them. The reasons for the dissatisfaction of the residents of Brest vary substantially beginning with the quality of services provided by the supermarket’s staff and ending with shortage of different products.
