Holocaust Denier convicted

The District Court in Riga has convicted 67 year old Victor Leitis of denying the Holocaust against the Jews and sentenced him to a 10 months suspended term of imprisonment with a probation period of 1 year.

The Defendant signed a plea bargain with the Prosecutor which the Court accepted.

Leitis had faced two criminal charges – public denial or justification of the Holocaust, crimes against humanity, crimes against peace and war crimes, as well as incitement to hatred based on national and ethnic origin.

In March 2010, in response to the Russian version of the Delfi Site, he published statements in which he denied the Holocaust with regard to the Jews and which constituted incitement on a nationalistic basis.
