Attempted arson in Vichy synagogue during prayers

VICHY – at around 6 o’clock in the evening, during prayers, the worshippers were alarmed by a smell and ascertained that newspaper articles displayed on the notice board had been set on fire.

On going out, one of the worshippers identified a couple in the street, who he had noticed in the entrance during the prayers and who had claimed to be visitors to the Synagogue. The Police arrested them on suspicion of having committed the act, this being at the request of the Rabbi. Under arrest, they denied the acts and were released after 24 hours.

The investigation is continuing.
