On 15 April 2002, vandals broke into the synagogue in La Marsa (a suburb near Tunis). It is a wealthy neighborhood, and Jews of Tunisian extraction visit there when they are in the country. The vandals caused severe damage destroying Torah scrolls and furniture. They also left PLO flags and pictures of Arafat around the synagogue. There were no casualties.
