Belgium – Anti-Jewish Shouts at a Demonstration in Antwerp

On 3rd April 2002, an unlicenced, violent pro-Palestinian demonstration was held in central Antwerp in which some 2000 people participated. The demonstrators entered the Jewish quarter, burnt an Israeli flag, vandalized business establishments and torched automobiles. The rioters shouted epithets, including “death to the Jews”, and slogans condemning Israel and Prime Minister Sharon. Demonstrations were also held in Brussels, in which about 1000 people participated, and in Liege in which about 500 people participated. In these demonstrations, too, shouts in a similar vein were heard.
