On 4th April 2002, three young Jewish men were attacked as they were leaving the synagogue of the Belz Hassidic community in Antwerp. The attackers were a group of about 30 Muslims who severely beat them up while shouting curses at the Jews, Israel and Prime Minister Sharon. One of the young men was hospitalized with serious injuries. The attack was perpetrated on a street near the synagogue, since the synagogue itself is guarded by police.
