On the evening of 14 January 2002, a Jewish lawyer was attacked by two thugs who came into his office in Rome with the intention of beating him up. The two of them hit him with a club on his head and his shoulder, and he required medical treatment. The assailants also tied up the woman intern he employs.
The lawyer in question represents the Jewish community in libel suits, and about two months ago he filed a libel suit against the right-wing newspaper Fotografare. It appears that right-wing elements were responsible for this attack.
