Belgium: A Man Convicted of Inciting to Antisemitism

A 27-year-old man from Antwerp was sentenced to 100 hours of community service after having been convicted of inciting to antisemitism. The incident occurred in January 2004 during a game between Israel and Belgium. The man had shouted: “Death to the Jews. Heil Hitler. Hamas, Hamas, all the Jews to gas”. He explained that he had wanted to express his support for the Palestinian People and said that he was sorry for what he had done.
