Russia – Woman Injured by Explosive Charge Attached to Antisemitic Sign Near Moscow

On 27th May 2002, a young woman (apparently not Jewish) was driving along the Moscow-Kiev road. About 20km west of Moscow, she noted a large sign at the side of the road reading “Death to the Jews”. She stopped and tried to take the sign down, when an explosive charge attached to the sign went off. From the explosion the woman suffered burns to her face and serious damage to one eye, and was admitted to a nearby hospital. Those investigating the case believe that whoever activated the charge assumed that Jews would try and take down the sign, and that is why they boobytrapped it.
