Acording to a poll taken by the Anti-Defamation League in New York, more than half of the Americans hold prejudices and antisemitic views. According to the poll, 17% of Americans – about 35 million – are “hard-core” antisemites, holding “unshakable” antisemitic views. More than 70 million Americans (about 35%) are not actually antisemites, but harbor some preconceived notions about the Jews. Only 48% of Americans have no predjudices about the Jews (as compared to 53% in a poll taken four years ago). This sharp rise follows a decade in which there was a continual drop in antisemitism. The results of the poll fit in with the striking 11% increase in the number of antisemtic incidents in the United States: in the early months of 2002, there were 626 antisemitic incidents as compared with the parallel period in 2001.
