Belgium – The King Condemns Antisemitism

On 21st July 2002, in the course of his address to the nation on the occasion of the Belgian national holiday, King Albert II referred to radical phenomena in Europe in general and in Belgium in particular. The King mentioned a number of racist incidents in Belgium and severely criticized them. He called for tolerance between cultures, adding that the Middle East conflict should not affect events in Belgium. The speech and its timing are considered to be of great symbolic importance.
