Egypt – The Sheikh of Al-Azhar Voices Sharp Antisemitic Views

On 31st August 2002, Sheikh Dr. Muhammad Sayid Tantawi, during his Friday sermon in the Al-Azhar Mosque, described the Jews as people whose promises cannot be trusted. He stressed that throughout the history of the Jews and their relations with Muslims, the Jews had broken their promises. Tantawi claimed that the Jews violated every agreement that they had signed with the Prophet Muhammad and that “This treachery found expression in modern history and in the Jews’ relations with the Aarbs. He added that the ongoing struggle of the Arab nation would annihilate the Jews and their broken promises”.
