On 31st March 2002, some 15-20 antisemitic graffiti with the symbol of the Star of David appeared on kiosks and on pictures of the mayoral candidate Anatoli Levit, of Jewish parentage. The graffiti read: “No to the Jews”. The matter appeared to be part of the political battles in the mayoral campaign. He was ultimately elected Mayor of Slavyansk.
