On 28th August 2003, a member of the Habad community was severely beaten up near the Brodetski Central Synagogue in downtown Kiev. The victim, an ultra-Orthodox Israeli connected with the Jewish Burial Society, was attacked by three men who approached him from a jeep and severely beat him up. He was hospitalized with brain concussion, but remained concious. The man said that his attackers between the ages of 25 and 30 shouted antisemitic epithets and curses at him in addition to beating him up.
