On 12th August 2003, the Antidefamation League announced that Mel Gibson’s film would arouse hatred for Jews if it were screened in its present form. According to Abraham Foxman, “The film ‘The Passion’ presents an unequivocal picture of the Jewish leadership and the Jewish masses as being exclusively responsible for the crucifixion of Jesus”. The film was screened before various groups and aroused a storm among organizations and the senior leaders concerned over its antisemitic implications.
