The Belarussian authorities have recently closed down the International Humanitarian Institue, the only institution offering courses on Judaism. Moreover, the authorities have refused to renew the lease on the building serving the Jewish community as a “Sunday School” for Jewish studies operating in Minsk since 1999. The Jewish community was offered no explanation for the closing down of these institutions, and the community leaders have accused the authotities of antisemitism.
