The Netherlands – Sharp Reaction by the Mayor of The Hague to Israel’s Protest Against the Trial

The Mayor of The Hague expressed his opposition to the efforts of the Israeli Embassy there to protest against the trial concerning the fence between Israel and the Palestinian Authority. As part of Israel’s information efforts, the Embassy gave the “Christians for Israel” organization the photographs of the 972 Israelis killed in terrorist attacks. The Mayor wanted to prevent the organization’s activists from marching through the city at the time the trial opened, claiming that it would disturb public order. He called the Embassy’s efforts “malignant and provocative”. The Israeli Foreign Ministry in Jerusalem expressed its shock at the Mayor’s words and the fact that he did not say a single word condemning terrorism itself.
