Britain – Antisemitic Comments by the Duchess of Kent

In an interview granted by Princess Michael, Duchess of Kent, to the German newspaper Welt Am Sonntag she commented on the sharp reactions to the appearance of Prince Harry in the costume of an SS soldier. The Duchess said: If the Prince had sported the Hammer and Sickle representing Stalin, the Gulag, the pogroms and the annihilation of people, no one would have been upset. She went on to say that the media were overly sensitive because of the structure of their ownership. The Princess’s comments aroused sharp criticism in the influential German Suddeutsche Zeitung that commented Does the Lady Kent see Jews everywhere? The Princess’s spokeswoman claims that these comments had been taken out of context and that the Princess is not an antisemite.
