France – Antisemitic Comments by the Comedian Dieudonnè

On 16th February 2005, the Algerian newspaper L’Expression published an interview with the comedian Dieudonnè in which he commented, “The Zionists enjoy an exemption from punishment. It’s enough that someone shouts “dirty Jew” at a child in school for the world to be shocked. Zionism is the Aids of Judaism”.

In the wake of these comments, French Interior Minister Dominique Perben decided to open an investigation regarding “denial of crimes against humanity” since Dieudonnè denied having made them. In the wake of Dieudonnè’s comments, some of his supporters have withdrawn their support claiming that they could no longer justify his positions. Prominent public figures have called for a boycott of his appearances.
