Spain – The Israeli Ambassador to Spain Cancels a Visit to Melilla in the Wake of Pressure from the Muslim Council


Victor Harel, the Israeli Ambassador to Spain cancelled a planned visit to the Jewish community in the city of Melilla in the wake of pressure from the local Muslim Council (CIM). A declaration published by the Council stated: “We express the concern, dissatisfaction and repulsion aroused in the Muslim community in Melilla in view of the Ambassador’s planned visit… which we consider to be an act of provocation, disrespect and an attack on our internal faith and at the same time a strike against the co-existence in the city…We call upon all the organizations committed to the rights of the Palestinian People and the defense of their national rights to oppose through democratic means the presence in Melilla of the gamut of acts of slaughter..”.
