Czech – An International Conference of Neo-Nazis

Over the past weekend, the Czech Chapter of the neo-Nazi “Blood and Honor” Organization founded in Britain in 1987 and dedicated to the heritage of the Third Reich, held a conference (“Concert”) in the city of Jablonec nad Nisou in North Bohemia with the participation of hundreds of neo-Nazis from The Czech Republic, Slovakia, Germany, Poland and the United States. The event was the largest of its kind held in The Czech Republic to date. According to media reports, the soldiers who guarded the event carried out vehicle searches only and did not do anything to prevent the conference’s being held. An official police spokesperson treated the event as a private event in which the police did not interfere since no law had been broken. It seems that the absence of active intervention by the police sent the message to the participants that such events are permitted in The Czech Republic, and there were those who even claimed that this would allow more publicly held events of this kind in the future. Czech Prime Minister Gross claimed in his initial reaction that he was not interested in The Czech Republic’s becoming a place for meetings of radicals like this one.
