Belgium – Threats to Jewish Businessmen in the Triangle Section of Brussels

On 4th February 2006, a person of North African origin went into the Rhetorique shop in the Triangle section of Brussels shouting “There are too many Jews here. If you don’t leave, on Friday you will all blow up. You’ll be blown up”! The proprietor, who is indeed Jewish, was not in the shop at the time of the incident. The salesgirl began shouting and the man left the shop. He went across the street, and went into another shop owned by a Jew who was not in the shop at the time. When the owner returned, the man prevented him and three of his customers from entering the shop. When the shop-owner tried to argue with him, the man grabbed him by the throat and shouted at him that the Jews had earned too much money that they had to stop their activities in the neighborhood because on Friday “Everyone is going to be blown up”. In the course of the fight that broke out in the wake of the encounter, the shop owner managed to gain control over his attacker who was subsequently arrested by the police.
