Czech–Song with Holocaust survivor’s words causes controversy

The  group, comprising members belonging to a generation of Czechs who have been learning and uncovering new details about the Holocaust since the fall of communism in the former Czechoslovakia in 1989, have produced a video-clip that has caused a stir in the Czech Republic. The song incorporates the voice of a distressed Holocaust survivor who is heard saying how she cannot understand how young people who still spray-paint walls with hateful slogans like “Gas the Jews!” The purpose of the song is to raise awareness in Czech society to the horrors of the past and its impact on Jews, Gypsies and others and to generate public discussion. In the words of one of the group members: “It seems so unreal that someone in Central Europe, who has gone through something like that, 50 years later still has to solve such questions instead of playing with grandkids,”
