On 25th February 2007, an interview was broadcast over the Egyptian television channel, Nile Culture TV, with the Egyptian researcher Muhammad al-Buhairi. In the course of the interview al-Buhairi was asked about the mixing of blood into the baking of matzoth, a story which many researchers, among them Arabs, view as the truth while others dismiss the idea out of hand. Buhairi answered that to his dismay there are Arab researchers who want to be holier that the Pope” and added the suggestion that the Nobel Prize for Literature should be awarded to the Israeli historian, the son of the former Chief Rabbi of Rome, who published a book on the blood libels. Al-Buhairi thinks that the issue should be grappled with and not ignored.
