Belgium– Antisemitic Remarks by a Police Inspector General in Andenne

At about 18:15 hours on 20th July 2007, two men in civilian clothes stood at the entrance to a Jewish-owned restaurant in Thon (Andenne). One of the two men is an Inspector General of the Belgian Federal Police (Finance Department) and the other is a detective. They announced that they were conducting an investigation in the area, sat down at the bar and ordered drinks. When they were both completely drunk, the Inspector General began making pro-Hitler comments, as well as homophobic remarks and insulting comments about the owner’s 14-year-old daughter. The restaurant owner called the police. When they arrived the Inspector was passed out drunk in his car. The detective had fled in his own vehicle.
