Another antisemitic attack took place in Ukraine, the third over a four day period. On September 27, four youths lurking near a synagogue in Zhitomir ambushed a citizen of Israel named Mendel Lichshtein, who had just left the building after evening prayers. Perhaps because two other attacks on Jews took place in Zhitomir in August, Mr. Lichshtein was armed with mace, which he discharged into the face of his attackers. They then fled the scene.
