A soccer game between Maccabi Antwerp and Sint Katelijne Waver ended in fighting between the players from both teams following anti-Semitic comments by one player from Sint Katelijne Waver.
From game start the atmosphere between the young players, all 16 years old, was tense. Curses were uttered until the Sint Katelijne Waver goalie said to one of the Maccabi players: “you should all return to Germany, all of you”. That last straw signaled the beginning of the fighting. The Maccabi players refused to continue with the game. After the game, the Sint Katelijne Waver team representatives apologized before Maccabi.
