Belgium– Anti-Semitic insults and threats between neighbors in Antwerp

On Friday, a woman of Jewish origin, aged 52, stood in the cashier’s line at the Delhaize store on the corner of Plantin and Moretuslei. Ahead of her was an old lady who was “taking her time” with the cashier. Behind the woman of the Jewish Faith was a neighbor of hers. After twenty minutes, when it was his turn, the neighbor began to insult her. He shouted in Flemish: “Who do you think you are, dirty Jewess. We know you, they should have wiped you out, and your whole race should have been destroyed. I’ve been waiting for more than a quarter of an hour. Because you’re Jewish, do you think that you can do whatever you like? I know what you do in your apartment, dirty Jewess. Get out of here, I’m going to kill you, dirty Jewess.” Following these insults and threats, the Manager of the store was called. The aggressor was asked to calm down. The moment the victim left the store, he quietened down. Afterwards, he waited for her at the corner of Plantin and Moretuslei and when she came within his range of vision, he began insulting her again and threatened to beat her as he waved his arms. She hastened her steps and asked a passer-by to accompany her to her apartment. Afterwards she lodged a complaint. The cashier and store manager agreed to testify in her favor.
