Israel – “Stinking Jews” at Yihiam Monument

Unknown persons have vandalized the “Yihiam Convoy” Monument near Cabri Junction in Western Galilee. The vandals scrawled graffiti on it writing “Stinking Jews” on one of the armored vehicles at the site, and with a sharp instrument they damaged the information points on which information is recorded about the casualties of the battle that took place at the site on 27th March 1948, in which 47 fighters of the Carmeli Brigade, who had set out from Nahariya to relieve Kibbutz Yihiam Hanatzor, were killed

Yehuda Shavit, the Head of Mateh Asher Regional Council within whose area of jurisdiction the site and the monument is situated, received a report from the Security Department this morning about this act of vandalism, which was discovered by a Council Patrolman. “It is painful to hear about something like this” he told ynet. “I would hope that we are talking about individuals on the fringes of Israeli society. It is too early to determine whether members of minority communities were involved – I am a person who believes in co-existence. There are many possibilities: maybe those behind it were drunk, perhaps they were fed-up. We shall leave it to the Police to deal with. From our point of view we shall continue working to preserve the site in memory of the fallen”.
