The Belgian newspaper has predicted that in fifty years there will be no more Jews living in the city due to an increase of Antisemitism.
It said many young Jews had been leaving the city to study in London, New York or Israel, where they could work more freely while still wearing their Jewish skullcaps, which have made them targets for antisemites in Antwerp.
De Standaard commented: “Only the poor Hasidic Jews stay and they refuse to adapt.”
