Germany – 2 Israelis attacked in Berlin nightclub

Berlin police are investigating whether a brawl at a nightclub in the German capital involving two Israeli tourists and a man of Palestinian descent was provoked by antisemitism.

The Tagesspiegel reported that the two Israelis, aged 22 and 18, were attacked at a nightclub located in the city’s Kreuzberg district.

One of the club’s employees reportedly approached the 22-year old tourist and asked him if he is Israeli. When the Israeli said he was, the man, who identified himself as a Palestinian, began to beat him.

When the tourist’s 18-year old friend attempted to defend him he, too, was attacked, and a beer glass was thrown at him.

The probe was reportedly handed over to a special police unit because of the possibility that antisemitism played a role in the assault.

After spending the night at a local hospital the two filed a police complaint, and are scheduled to return to Israel.
