Germany – Windows broken at Jewish Leader’s home

Windows have been smashed at the home of a Jewish community leader in Germany, police said Monday – but added it was not clear yet if the damage was an antisemitic attack.

A unit that investigates political crime was seeking the cause of the late Sunday damage to the Hanover home of Michael Fuerst.

Police discovered the damage after an alarm went off. A spokesman said the windows, all above and below the storey where Fuerst lives, might have been shot at, but stones or a catapult might have been used too.

Fuerst, chairman of the Jewish community in the northern city, added, “It was probably an air pistol.” But he added that he did not know if he was the target. “Perhaps it was just a kids’ prank,” he said.
