Lithuania – European ambassadors protest Lithuanian Holocaust denial

The ambassadors of seven European states have sent a joint letter of protest to the Lithuanian government and president, local news media reported, after the publication of an allegedly antisemitic article by a government official.

Historian and interior ministry employee Petra Stankeras handed in his resignation Thursday after the contents of the letter were made public.

In the letter, the ambassadors of Britain, Estonia, France, Finland, the Netherlands, Norway and Sweden express their outrage at the publication by the Veidas news weekly on November 8 of an article by Stankeras which described the mass murder of Jews as a “legend” and said the post-war Nuremberg trials were a “legal farce.”
