The new Jewish Cemetery in Riga was desecrated last night by unidentified vandals, who used white paint to draw swastikas on more than 100 tombstones, the Latvian State Police reported.

Latvia – Antisemitic vandalism

A memorial to Zanis Lipke, a Latvian credited with saving more than 50 Jews from death during World War II, was daubed with paint in the early hours of Monday morning, police said. The memorial was quickly cleaned up by municipal authorities.

USA – Fort Smith Jewish temple vandalized

Members of the United Hebrew Congregation in Fort Smith, Arkansas say vandals have been terrorizing their building for the past two months and they want it to stop.

Boarded up windows and blue tape provide a temporary fix for the damage done at the temple on North 47th Street. “It’s aggravating. I mean what can I say? I don’t think you’d enjoy it if that happened at your church,” said Nick Wintory, temple treasurer.

The desecrated headstones were discovered at the Washington Cemetery in Midwood by workers Sunday morning.


More than 50 gravestones were overturned and knocked to the ground.
