This is not the first time Dieudonne has tried this trick. In November the humorist rented a hall from the municipality of Marcq-en-Barœul, near Lille, under a pseudonym. After the municipality discovered the real client, they canceled the order.

Dieeudonne’s performance was supposed to take place Friday night at the Hippodrome in Marcq-en-Barœul. The artist’s strategy, who was convicted in 2015 because of anti-Semitic expressions, has already proven itself.

A company sends a request to lease a hall under the title: “Theatrical Conference”. The place of the show is kept secret. The people, who booked places, are notified at the last minute by an SMS about the precise location of the event.

Last year, the municipality of Roubaix, hired a hall to Dieudonne without knowing who had ordered the place and thinking that the company who had hired the place is presenting cosmetics.

This time, it was Esprit de la Forêt, which tried to do the trick. The city sent a contract that was returned signed two hours later, together with the payment. “It was strange that the company did not contact us about the technical data,” says Bernard Gerard, mayor of Marcq-en-Barœul.

A few searches about Esprit de la Forêt allowed the municipality to link the matter with Dieudonne. The mayor decided to cancel the contract and filed a complaint about “fraud”. “The city has been deceived,” Bernard Gerard says, “this plan may interfere with public order.”

On Twitter, Dieudonne denounced the “political pressures” and looked for another hall for his show on Friday night.
