The storm surrounding the women’s water polo match between Spain and Israel caused great damage to the image of the Spanish state. Spain’s Culture and Sport Minister José Guirao sent an official letter to his counterpart, Miri Regev, in which he expressed his apology for what was done to the Israeli team on Spanish soil: “I would like to express deep regret about what has happened in Barcelona.”

In his letter, Guiaro further stated:  “A state of law like Spain can never surrender to such groups. As soon as we were made aware of the situation, the ministry, through the Supreme Sports Council and in cooperation with the Foreign Ministry, took immediate steps to prevent any kind of pressure against the continuous running of sports events. “

In conclusion, the Spanish minister of sports added in his letter sent to Regev: “I am hopeful such events will not happen again, and if they do, you can rely on the commitment of our Ministry of Culture and Sport to do everything in its power to prevent such constraints.”
