Crown Heights, Brooklyn, NY –  A white tenant recently moved into a mostly
black apartment building on President Street in Crown Heights, not long after
threatening hate graffiti was found scrawled on a hallway wall.

Police received a call after a hateful and threatening message was found
scrawled in a hallway of 1146 President Street, an apartment building in Crown
Heights. “Murder the Jew tenant” was the hate message which led to the police
being called.

A quick investigation revealed that a new white tenant recently moved
into the building. This tenant also happens to be Jewish, though not easily
discernable and not observant.

Detectives from the Hate Crimes Taskforce have been assigned to the case
and are investigating the incident as a bias attack.

1146 President Street is a
small apartment building located between Nostrand and Rogers Avenue and houses
8 apartments. This building, along with 17 others in Crown Heights, was
acquired by Dovi Sperlin back in 2001 from the City of New York’s Neighborhood
Partnership Housing Development Fund.

The mission statement of the fund is “to facilitate the disposition and
rehabilitation of certain city-owned parcels of real property.”
