UCF student finds swastikas carved into walls of her apartment
Orlando, FL – The Orange County Sheriff’s Office is investigating
antisemitic vandalism at off-campus housing near UCF. Deputies found 11
swastikas scratched on the hallways of the University House Apartments after
receiving a call from a Jewish student who lives there.
The 21-year-old student, Michelle Feldman, said that three weeks earlier
someone destroyed her Mezuzah, a Jewish door decoration that welcomes visitors
inside, and stole the prayer it contained.
“It was upsetting. I cried. I didn’t sleep very much that night,”
said Feldman, a social-work major. “The Mezuzah says a Jewish person lives
here. It’s suppose to keep you safe.”
Feldman said friends told her late Saturday night they saw three
swastikas on the third floor on their way to her fourth-floor apartment. But it
was dark and she was afraid to go outside.
“In the morning, I started counting. When I got to five, I called a
friend. We found nine of them,” Feldman said.
