The Brown-RISD Hillel Center in Providence (WLNE)

Providence, RI – Providence police responded to a series of antisemitic threats directed at a Jewish center for college students earlier today.

Campus safety officials say they were notified of specific and violent threats made to the Brown-RISD Hillel Weiner Center around 10 a.m. Sunday.

Brown University President Christina Paxson said employees received “deeply disturbing antisemitic emails that included threats of violence against them personally and Brown-RISD Hillel.”

The Hillel Weiner Center is a joint center for Jewish students attending Brown University and the Rhode Island School of Design.

Leaders of the center contacted Providence police, who assisted in ensuring the building was safe.

Authorities say they are working to investigate the original emailed threats and will continue to ensure the safety and security of the building.

ABC 6 News crews observed police at the building as late as 6 p.m. Sunday.
