USA – Antisemitic graffiti found in Harpswell

A father and son have been charged following an investigation into antisemitic graffiti in Harpswell.

Authorities received reports of graffiti painted on the roadway at the intersection of Stevens Corner Road and Harpswell Islands Road featuring a swastika and a reference to the Holocaust.

The Brunswick Police Department and Cumberland County Sheriff’s Deputies were able to identify, locate and charge two individuals.

The two people charged are 49-year-old William Deary of Harpswell and his son, 18-year old Hayden Deary, also of Harpswell.

They have been charged with two counts of criminal mischief and are scheduled to appear in West Bath District Court in April.

The authorities who worked on this investigation believe these cases may rise to the level of Civil Rights Violations on the state or possibly federal level.

The investigation is also being sent to the Office of the Attorney General to be reviewed as a possible Civil Rights case to be brought against both individuals by the Office of the Attorney General.
