Saltrio – The plaque placed on 25 April 2022 next to a sculpture to commemorate the passage of Liliana Segre and her father on the run to Switzerland was vandalized in Saltrio, in the province of Varese.
The name of the senator for life was erased with a sharp object and a group of volunteers from the area tried to remedy the situation by rewriting it with a permanent marker.
“An idiotic gesture, commented the mayor of Saltrio, Maurizio Zanuso, We are preparing to reproduce the plaque and protect it with a plexiglass screen to avoid future damage. The hope is to be able to place it on a symbolic day like the next January 27th, Remembrance Day”.
